Electricity costs are up 11% in 2022 and are projected to keep increasing! This past Earth Day, President Biden and the administration brought leaders from across the globe to rally support for building a renewable energy economy and cutting global emissions in half by 2030.
We want to help create a future where communities can move beyond fossil fuels and towards clean energy. This is an ambitious but necessary goal, solar panels and storage can not only help us reduce emissions and uplift communities across the country, but create hundreds of thousands of good jobs along the way as well!
Solar Power Can Help Replace Fossil Fuels
The sun is a clean and renewable source of energy that can be harnessed to generate electricity. Solar electricity generation has increased by 800% since 2010, reaching 97.2 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity as of December 2018. This is equivalent to taking 24 million vehicles off the road, saving 12 billion gallons of gas or planting 2 billion trees. These numbers are expected to grow steadily over the next ten years.
Despite impressive numbers, we will still fall short of the Presidents emissions and clean energy goals. Achieving 100% clean electricity will require U.S. solar installations to increase by more than 80% beyond what’s currently forecasted over the next 10 years. Now is the time for the administration and Congress to come together and enact policies that boost clean energy deployment.
Solar panels can be a part of America’s clean energy future, and Earth Day is a reminder why this is urgent. Investing in solar and storage, boosting domestic manufacturing, modernizing the power grid, and encouraging long-term clean energy growth will generate hundreds of billions in private investment, employ hundreds of thousands of people and help America develop more options. No matter where you live or what energy sources are available, panels can provide clean, affordable energy for your home or business. With a 30-year warranty and no fuel costs, solar panels pay for themselves over time and save you money in the long run.
SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association) is leading a campaign to ensure that Congress seizes on this opportunity and passes meaningful policies that will accelerate an equitable clean energy transition. This includes championing bipartisan legislation to extend federal tax credits for solar, wind and electric vehicles.
The best way to make sure clean energy is part of a new infrastructure bill is to send a message directly to your elected representatives in Congress and the legislature. These investments are a chance for the federal government to take the right step with the right technology at the right time. These investments are long-term, forward-thinking solutions that will help the solar + storage industry lead our economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic, and reach President Biden’s ambitious clean energy goals.
We look forward to continuing this important work. Together, we can ensure that solar + storage reaches its full potential to curb emissions and create high-quality jobs as we recover from the pandemic and look forward to a more prosperous America. Tackling the climate crisis will continue to be a top priority for his administration and Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle.
Solar panels, like the ones we offer, are incredibly powerful and durable. Because they rely on the sun to provide energy, they’re able to deliver your home or business with a continuous supply of energy whenever it is needed. They’re also relatively easy to install, so even if you aren’t a professional handyman, you can save money by installing them yourself. If your solar panels have been in place for a few years, however, you may want to take a moment to review some common maintenance tips. By making sure that your panels are not being affected by any obstructions, repairing any tears in your collection tanks, and cleaning the frames surrounding your panels every season or two, you can make sure that your panel collection is dispensing the maximum amount of energy possible.
