Frequently asked orizon energy questions
You can contact our sales department directly and we will arrange for a sales representative to either visit your home or conduct a remote video session to discuss your needs. Our top priority is to educate and assist you with any questions or concerns you may have and to make the transition to solar energy straightforward. To get started, all we require is a copy of your utility bill, which will allow us to gather concrete data about your property and roof.
Most residential installs take 1-3 days – we require access to the home for a few hours during this time.
According to a NAIT study, snow build up will reduce a systems yearly output by a mere 3-4%. The solar panels create a skating rink effect that allows the snow to slide off naturally.
Solar panels are built to be highly durable and resilient. it is improbable that they would be damaged by hail. The solar modules undergo a series of tests to ensure their durability before being released into the market. We have a YouTube video that provides more detailed information on this subject. For those who are still worried, they could consider adding solar panels to their home insurance policy to provide an added layer of security and peace of mind.
Net metering is a program offered by utility companies that allows microgeneration properties to both buy and sell power. With net metering, a bi-directional meter is installed that can track when power is being sold to the grid, as well as when power is being drawn from the grid. This way, the difference between the amount of power used and the amount of power sold can be calculated, and the net result can be used to determine the utility bill at the end of the billing cycle.
Absolutely. SolarEdge has manufactured a special inverter that can help you charge your electric car directly from the solar panels on your roof. This inverter is called the Energy Hub. It is an innovative solution that acts as a level 2 charger and has a unique Solar Boost Mode. If you’re interested in learning more about the Energy Hub, simply ask your sales representative for more information.
No, solar systems are tied to the grid, and therefore, if the power is off, the solar system will not work. This is a safety measure. However, a battery can be added to the system to provide a solution. If you’re interested, please contact your sales representative for more information.
Before we advance a project, we do what’s called a site survey where one of our team visits your property to inspect your roof from within the attic and above using a drone to ensure the structure is capable of supporting the additional load and that the roof surface condition is in a suitable condition. Based on this survey and advice from our structural engineers, we will either move forward with the project or make a recommendation to the homeowner to have the roof reinforced or resurfaced depending on the scenario.
We offer flexible payment options to our clients, enabling them to choose the method that suits them best. Our payment methods include bank draft, e-transfer, direct deposit, online bill payment, and credit card (additional credit fees may apply). For ATB financing clients, they can request direct transfer to our account by speaking with their banker.
Solar panel warranties are quite unique, with manufacturers typically offering a 25-year production warranty. This means that they guarantee the solar panels will only degrade by a certain percentage each year, ensuring that even after 25 years, your system should still produce about 85% of its original output. This is known as the production warranty. Orizon Energy provides a workmanship warranty of five years which protects you in the event Orizon Energy fails to install your system according to the manufacturers recommendations and that causes damage to your system or roof. The workmanship warranty covers any issues that arise due to installation errors, such as roof leaks. This provides customers with peace of mind, knowing that any such issues will be addressed and resolved by Orizon Energy.
Orizon Energy extends inverter warranties to match the 25-year production warranty, ensuring that customers are covered in case of any inverter failures down the road, without the worry of incurring unexpected expenses.
Absolutely, Some of our solar clients have chosen to finance the cost of their roof replacement along with their solar system to make it more affordable. Before we start the project, our site surveyors assess the condition of the roof and provide recommendations. It’s important to ensure that the roof is in good condition and will last for the lifespan of the solar system. If the roof needs to be replaced, it’s best to do so before the solar installation. Sun exposure is the main deteriorating factor with most roof types. Solar panels will provide shade to the roof and help prolong the material life expectancy.
Yes, according to local real estate experts, solar systems increase the value of a property. In Canada, solar installations are typically valued by adding their cost to the overall value of the property. Additionally, solar panels can make a property more attractive since they can lead to a net zero home. In fact, some builders are now specializing in net zero housing and incorporating solar energy into their new builds. Investing in solar is a smart choice because it allows homeowners to take control of their utility bills and reduce inflation-related costs. Moreover, by building equity in their solar system, homeowners can potentially recoup their investment when they sell the property.
The Canadian government is currently offering the Canada Greener Homes program. One of these incentives is a $5,000 federal grant that any homeowner in Canada can apply for. Additionally, there is an exciting 0% financing option available that can be spread out over a period of up to 10 years and a maximum of $40,000. These incentives are designed to encourage Canadians to adopt more energy-efficient and sustainable solutions for their homes.
In the event that a homeowner sells their house with a solar system, the system will be included in the sale. If the system was financed, the loan will be fully paid off using the proceeds from the sale. The new owner will have the solar system included as part of their mortgage.
When your solar system generates power on your roof, the energy travels through the inverter and is converted to AC power that can be used in your home. If you generate more power than you need, you have the opportunity to sell the excess power to the grid. This excess power is classified as micro-generation, and the amount paid back to the homeowner will depend on the retail rate they signed up for with their energy provider.
The AB Micro Gen Act allows anyone to produce enough energy to cover their yearly usage.
Your energy company will automatically credit your account for any exported electricity (1:1) or you can look at other retailers such as Park Power.
There is practically no maintenance for solar panels. Mother nature will clean them and we provide monitoring to ensure the systems are running.
One of the best places in Canada. We might have cold winters, but the sun shines all year around here.
The full process is turn-key except for a few signatures from the homeowner. We take care of everything for you! The only aspect required by the homeowner is the application of the federal Greener Homes Grant and Greener Homes Loan if being used.
Yes, solar systems can always be expanded by adding more panels and increasing the inverter size. Just have to “prove” the additional consumption.
Assuming no special issues arise, you can expect your solar installation to take place within 2-4 months from signing.
The last step in the install is to have the wire service provider come out and install a bi–directional meter that automatically keeps track of your import/export. In some cities like Edmonton and Calgary, all meters have already been changed a few years back.
